Mamta Govind is a clinical psychologist. She completed her training at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Her training included work in several settings including schools, university, public hospitals and community clinics. In 2010 she worked at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital’s adult psychiatry department as well as the Tara H. Moross Psychiatric Hospital. Her services included individual, group and family therapy as well as psychological and neuropsychological assessment. In 2015 she rejoined Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital team in the Child, Adolescent and Family Unit. Her services included individual therapy, play therapy, parental guidance, family therapy, psychological assessment as well as group therapies for adolescents and parents. She also hosted regular workshops for parents. She has worked at Tygerberg’s Neuropsychiatric Department as well as Khayelitsha District Hospital and its associated community clinics.
She offers brief and long-term psychotherapy to individuals in crises. Her areas of focus include trauma, suicide risk management, depression, bipolar mood disorder, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and adjustment difficulties such as loss, bereavement and divorce. She also works with parents and has a special interest in maternal mental health.
Mamta tailors therapeutic interventions to the needs of each particular individual. She utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy that is founded in a diverse training background and experience in different modalities including; cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy (PCT), psychodynamic therapy and systemic therapy.
